2010 Ride for Hope Director's Message
My name is Tina Darnell. I have the honor of serving as the Director of the 5th Annual Ride for Hope (RFH) in Tallahassee, Florida. The RFH was created by Lou Farrah, a cancer patient who wanted to make a difference with a bike ride and community celebration of life. Although Lou died in 2006, his legacy lives on through this athletic, wellness and family fun event that will provide “Cancer Care Close to Home” to those in Tallahassee and the Big Bend Region.
The RFH is a fun-filled cyclist and wellness event for the entire family and this year will take place on June 4th & 5th, 2010.
This event includes local businesses, large corporations, schools, churches, and individuals passionate about fighting cancer and caring about people with cancer. We want to keep cancer patients and their families close to home by providing the most comprehensive and compassionate care available and to promote healthy lifestyles through physical activity, health related information and cancer awareness.
Proceeds from the Ride for Hope benefit the Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center. Recently, on September 9, 2009, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) colleagues and friends gathered to celebrate ground-breaking for the new Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center, which once completed, will be home to all of TMH’s outpatient cancer services.
The new Cancer Center will provide a single location for services that are currently widely distributed. It will house programs and support services including breast, lung and survivorship navigation programs providing patients a single point of contact from diagnosis to survivorship. It will feature beautiful furnishings, leading edge technology and a healing garden outside the building. Additionally, the new Cancer Center is being designed and built to LEED specifications that promote a whole-building approach to environmental sustainability. The 54.412 square-foot building is scheduled to open in fall 2010.
Everyone can participate in this great cause. Get Involved. Get Inspired. Get Healthy.
See you in June!
Sincerely,
Tina Darnell
